Hi, my name is Sam and welcome to manthyB!
I live and work in Wiltshire. I have always had sewing and crafting in my life. Working as a full-time sailmaker for over 35 years, I decided to start my part-time gardening business as I have a love for nature and the outdoors but just couldn't stop sewing, so now I make time for repairing sails and manthyB.
ManthyB started after a visit to India this year to help set-up a new sail loft for a microlight aircraft company. I fell in love with the people, vibrancy, and colour of the country, also the array of gorgeous fabrics available. The craft of hand woodblock printing fascinated me the most, especially as it can be printed using natural dyes and the wooden blocks are carved by hand before the printing process starts. All this inspired me to start manthyB making simple bags and accessories to show off the colours and intricate patterns of the hand-printed cottons.
Now it has led me to search for naturally dyed fabrics using plants from the U.K and to support independent businesses which I think is so important at the moment. I also like to mix hand printed fabrics with fabrics I have bought over the years and to upcycle any old clothes I have.
I try to keep my bags and accessories simple and free from metal fastenings as much as I can to reduce materials and for easy care. All my packaging is made from recycled materials and postage bags are compostable.
I hope you enjoy my bags and accessories as much as I enjoy making them!
